Edo glass was first produced in the early Meiji era (1868-1912) when Shinagawa Glass Works, a government-managed factory in Tokyo, imported glass-manufacturing technology from the West.
This craft was developed into an industry mainly in Tokyo, using three main methods: free blowing, mold blowing, and press molding.
