Light a candle in a tiny snow kamakura
The town of Yokote in Akita, one of Japan's most snowy areas, prides itself with a 450-year old tradition of making "kamakura" (snow igloos) for Little New Year. During the snow festival held in Yokote in February, you will find large and small kamakura all around town, enveloping the town in a dreamlike atmosphere. Try your hand at making your own original miniature kamakura here in the "kamakura town of Yokote." As darkness falls, seeing the candle in your mini-kamakura light up will surely invite you into the fairy tale evening of this snow country. The event is held from January till the end of February, when the ground is covered in snow, so please join in!
