Did you know that there is a winery in Osaka?
Habikino-shi, a 30-minute train ride from Osaka City, used to be the largest grape-growing area in Japan, with abundant sunshine hours, a stable climate, and soil with good drainage. Today, the number of grape growers has decreased, but the city is still known as one of the leading grape growing areas in Japan. Here we introduce two wineries that have been growing, brewing, and selling their own grapes in this region for over 90 years.
■'Kawachi Wine', a winery that produces wine with close ties to the local community
'Kawachi Wine' is a winery that makes wines to enliven the entire region, with a desire to offer wines that go well with Japanese home cooking and that, unlike Western wines, can only be made in Osaka.
・Winery Tour
Here, visitors can tour the vineyards and winery and experience the process of making delicious Kawachi wine. First, you will visit the vineyards to learn about the suitability of the region for grape cultivation and the cultivation methods best suited to making delicious wine. After that, you will visit the winery to see the detailed process of transforming grapes into wine and feel the passion of the winery.
・Wine Tasting
After the tour, you can enjoy a wine tasting of five different wines (the number of wines differs depending on the tour course).
▲Kontoku Budoshu series 'Delaware 2024' 750ml 1,980 yen (tax included)
'Kontoku Budoshu Delaware 2024', a white wine representing 'Kawachi Wine', is made from 100% Delaware, a traditional grape variety with a history of over 100 years, and has an aroma and taste with the concentrated flavor of the grape, making it an excellent match for Japanese food in general, fried chicken, and grilled chicken.
'Kawachi Wine' produces not only wine but also plum wine. We especially recommend 'Golden Party', which was served at the G20 summit dinner party.
▲'Golden Party' 720ml 2,860 yen
'Golden Party' is a sparling plum wine with a rich flavor and aroma, based on our treasured long-aged plum wine blended with plum wine from various vintages. It is recommended to be well chilled in the refrigerator.
・Winery Tours
Winery tours are available for a fee and include a tour of the vineyards with staff, a factory tour, a wine seminar with wine tasting, and a meal. For those who just want a quick wine tasting, there is also a free wine tasting course that allows you to taste 5-6 different wines with cups. Advance reservations are required for both courses.
■ 'Asuka Wine', a winery that focuses 100% on its own vineyards

'Asuka Wine' started as a grape farming company in 1934, and is a winery that makes wine only from grapes from its own vineyards of about 5 hectares. The winery also produces wines that are easy to drink for wine novices as well as those who are familiar with wine.
・The soil of the vineyard is the deciding factor for good wine.

The winery, which takes great care of its vineyards and focuses on viticulture, offers tours where you can learn about the soil. Tour participants can also enjoy wine seminars and tastings of five different wines. Meal plans are also available, each of which requires a fee and advance reservation.

'Asuka Sparkling Chardonnay' is a sparling wine made from 100% Chardonnay harvested from Asuka's own vineyards, and has won the Gold Award at the Japan Wine Competition for two consecutive years. It has a grapefruit-like citrus aroma, a firm body, and a well-balanced combination of minerality and mild acidity.
