At Keio Department Store Shinjuku, ”Ekiben & Japanese Local Gourmet Fair" is currently in full swing! Approximately 300 different ekiben (lunch box sold at train stations) gather from all over Japan at this super popular annual event!

Among them, you can savor the past winners of the "Ekiben Grand Prix" held by East Japan Railway Company (An annual event to decide the No.1 ekiben in Eastern Japan by fan votes)! Here are the winners of YEAR 2012 to YEAR 2019! (All can be purchased at 7F Event Space.)


［Ekiben Grand Prix Winner of Year 2012］

鱈めし (新潟県)

Niigata Pref. Hokuriku Shinkansen/Joetsu-Myoko Station
Tara Meshi (鱈めし): 1,200 yen
*Limited to 200 boxes per day.
A cod-filled lunch box including codfish stewed in sweet soy sauce, Oyakozuke (vinegared cod meat with cod roe, ginger, and wood ear muchroom), and grilled cod roe! Also, herring roe pickled with wasabi and Nara-zuke (vegetables picked in sake lees) adds some accent. With this ekiben, you can enjoy various unique Japanese flavors!

牛肉どまん中 (山形県)

Beef Domannaka (牛肉どまん中): 1,250 yen

Plenty of flavored ground beef and simmered beef are topped over Yamagata Prefecture's rice "Domannaka" (means "right in the middle"). The meat flavored with special sweet & spicy sauce goes perfectly well with rice!

Have you tried "Hinai Jidori" before? It's one of the most famous chicken brand in Japan. This Hinai Jidori chicken is cooked in 2 ways: "salt-grilled" and "flavored ground chicken." Both brings out the deep strong flavor of Hinai Jidori.

This ekiben takes us Japanese back! It reminds us of mom's cooking! The rice consists of 2 layers. The top rice layer is covered with flavored bonito flakes and dried seaweed with picked plum in the middle, and the bottom rice layer is covered with dried seaweed and sweet soy sauce flavored simmered kelp. The side dishes including grilled salmon and Japanese egg roll also make a good match with the rice! One bite will lead to another!
