Taste Japanese tea at 'Ippodo Tea Kyoto Main Store', a tea shop founded in 1717!

'Ippodo Tea Kyoto Main Store' is a long-established tea shop in Kyoto that was founded over 300 years ago. Making use of the old building, the shop has reopened after a renewal as a place where customers can enjoy the charms of tea in different ways, such as having matcha prepared right in front of you, brewing your own tea, and tasting it together with seasonal Japanese sweets.

Let us quickly introduce you to different ways on how to enjoy tea in the restaurant!
■The pleasure of finding your favorite tea

Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing that will catch your eye is a list of tea brands near the ceiling. Approximately 30 variants of tea, including matcha, gyokuro, sencha, and bancha are written, and available for purchase while consulting with the staff about their favorite tea in an old-fashioned counter. English pamphlets are also available explaining the characteristics of the teas.

This product contains 2g of matcha in a stick-type packaging, ideal for those who wants to easily drink the popuplar matcha. The stick form allows you to always enjoy the fresh taste of matcha, making it an ideal souvenir.

■Take out and enjoy the tea of your choice・・・　'Take-out Corner'

The staff will brew each cup of tea according to the customer's preference, such as “I want to enjoy the rich taste” or “I want to gulp it down". Enjoy the light sound of the tea whisk being shaken as you make matcha at the semi-circular counter with a tea kettle inside.

■Enjoy a relaxing cup of tea 'Cafe Kaboku'

　Tea tastes differently depending on how it is brewed. You can also enjoy seasonal Japanese sweets to go with the type of tea. The coffee shop also has three different atmospheres: the Okunoma, counter seating, and Teramachi no Ma.

　The set includes seasonal Japanese sweets delivered daily from a Japanese sweets shop and matcha green tea, which allow you to enjoy the season. You can choose from 2 types of green tea : "strong tea" (koicha) or light and mellow "light tea" (usucha).

■"Tsugino-ma" where you can ask about tea, utensils, and other things to enjoy tea with

　Once a month, knowledgeable tea staff will introduce the teas they recommend for the season and provide tea tastings while accepting consultations about tea. You can pick up the tea utensils displayed on the wall and receive a lesson on how to use them.
