You may have noticed Japan isn’t the biggest fan of everybody’s favourite chocolate holiday. With chocolate sales reaching their peak for Valentine’s Day and shortly followed by White Day, there isn’t much need for chocolate brands to delve down the path to Easter bunnies and chocolate eggs.
But of course, when Japan does get involved, you can be sure the resulting products are more than perfect.
Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu’s Somer House has taken the two best parts of Easter day – bunnies and chocolate eggs – and mashed them together for the perfect Easter treat.
The ‘Egg Bunny’ is exactly what the name says – a chocolate Easter Egg resembling a bunny. The hollow egg-shaped chocolate also features adorable chocolate bunny-shaped ears and cheeks and delicate chocolate spring flowers.
The eggs are available in three spring-season inspired shades, and contain almond chocolates, bite sized egg-shaped chocolates and chocolate pearls.
Each colour is limited to just 10 pieces, and no more will be made once they are sold out.
Reservations are currently being taken for the eggs, with sales going ahead from 20 March 2021.
Colours: Red, Blue, Yellow
Price: 2,800 yen
Somer House will also be taking part in April Fool’s Day celebrations with their ‘Poisson Doubler’, a puff pastry with features that hint towards some traditions from France that date back to the 1500’s.
Taking on the shape of a fish, this puff pastry is filled with rich custard, whipped cream and a mixture of freshly cut fruits – take a close look and you’ll notice how the ‘fins’ are made out of apple slices.
The design is associated with the French ‘poisson d’avril’ custom, in which children will try to stick as many paper fish as they can onto the backs of adults throughout the day.
The Poisson Doubler will be available in store on 1 April 2021 only. The cake will be available in two sizes.
Regular size: 650 yen
Wholecake (family sized): 2,500 yen
