We visited a Kurumi button specialty shop "MiSuZuYa" in Okazu Yokocho shopping street, Tokyo where the nostalgic atmosphere of Japanese Showa era still remains.
Kurumi button is a type of a button that is wrapped with hemp cloth, leather, or with knitting fabric. It has been used as an accent item not only for clothing but for hair accessories and pouches.
At MiSuZuYa, there are more than 200 types of Kurumi buttons from ones made with thin see-through materials to ones with fluffy and furry materials.
Cloth is widely used to wrap buttons, but embroidered ones are very popular. The ones on the picture above are the buttons our store manager made. They are cute and you can feel the warmth of handmade products.
There are buttons with unique designs!
Face buttons (Zoom in to see the facial expressions)
Buttons with cute deserts and bread designs. Perfect for someone who loves to eat!
Earrings and clip-on earrings with Kurumi buttons are also popular as gifts.
A white T-shirt looks different if you put Kurumi buttons on it.
You can make your original hair tie and brooch ! (500 yen)
Choose your favorite cloth to wrap the button and place the cloth and the button on the machine table.
Press the button with a driving tool.
Take the button off from the tool. Your Kurumi button is completed!
You can make a hair tie by threading an elastic on the back of the button!
There you go. It is very easy to make. Please try all by means.
