When you travel around Japan one of the most important details is deciding where you will actually be spending your nights. Luckily there are plenty of options to choose from, including the Ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn. Read on for just a few of the great reasons you should stay at a ryokan on your next trip in Japan.
The Onsen
One of the main reasons people choose to stay at a ryokan is to enjoy the Onsen, public hot spring baths. Most ryokan will have at least one onsen, but typically at least two, one for men and one for women (a ryokan with only one onsen will alternate times for use by men and women). Some may have private onsen that you can reserve, or even suites with a private bath on the balcony of your room. The hot water is usually fed by Japan’s abundant naturally occurring geothermal springs and the unique properties of the water will vary by region.
