When May comes in Japan, it is customary to decorate and hang "koinobori" (carp banner) outdoors to wish boys good health and success in life. Events featuring these "koinobori" are held throughout the country, so how about taking a trip out to see all the fishes swimming in the sky?

Even at Tokyo Tower, the popular tourist spot in the heart of Tokyo, there is a spring festival featuring koinobori. The event, named after the 333-meter height of Tokyo Tower, features 333 swimming koinobori. The evening illumination also offers a different and appealing atmosphere to enjoy.
Since Tokyo Tower has friendly relations with Ofunato City in Iwate Prefecture, which boasts the country's largest number of catches of sanma (saury), there is the added fun of trying to spot the single, 6-meter "Sanmanobori" (saury banner) hoisted among the other "koinobori". Don't miss it!
