 The Japanese Kagami Mochi Rice Cake (鏡餅), which literally translates into “mirror rice cake” is a special traditional Japanese decoration for the New Year. It is usually made up of two pieces of rice cake, like a snowman. The small one is placed on the top, and the larger one is placed on the bottom.

 A Kagami mochi is displayed from the year-end until January 11, the day of Kagami Biraki which means open the mirror. kagami mochi plays an important role in Japan, people believe it brings us good fortune for the New Year♪
