Walk “Onomichi” and Slip Back into the Past !

Onomichi is a town just in the center of Okayama city and Hiroshima city, where you can feel its history and culture. Since the town faces Onomichi-Suido, the Seto Inland Sea, it has been prosperous as a distributing center of trades using marine transportation.

In 1999 opening of Shimanami coast road connected the town to Imaji city in Shikoku, which made trading very convenient. And in 2015 all roads for Chugoku-crossing-expressway has been constructed, making Onomichi an important area as a “crossroad of Seto Inland Sea.”

Onomichi is famous as “Hill town”, “literature town”, and “movie town” in Japan. As popular writers have published works setting stories at Onomichi like "Kamichu!" as well as beautiful sceneries of Onomichi has been shown frequently in films, it is a popular sightseeing area by men and women by all ages.

And “scenery of hill” and “unique buildings” of Onomichi, are also often used for shooting of anime, TV series, and photogravure.

Life in Onomichi, located between mountains and a sea, is a history, coexisting with many hills and stairs.

I walked too!

This area, sandwiched between Seto Inland Sea and mountains, has irregular narrow roads and stairs. However, scenery is always a good picture of “decades ago Japan” from anywhere in Onomichi.

I was very impresses by the beauty of Onomichi, but I had to bring back fatigue and sore muscles as souvenirs as if I’ve been to climbed a mountain LOL
