Tour Japanese museums during the "Autumn of the Arts"

In Japan, the months of October and November are collectively known as the "Autumn of the Arts". It is called so because the weather is quite comfortable, making it easy to concentrate on creative activities. Many art exhibitions are held in Japan during this season; as the days slowly grow chillier, make some time to pop into a warm museum or two and acquaint yourself with the arts.

The Ueno Royal Museum -- "Making the Difference: Vermeer and Dutch Art"

Tokyo for the biggest Vermeer exhibition ever held in a Japanese museum. The venue features roughly 50 works in total, including worldwide rare and widely acclaimed productions by exemplary Dutch Golden Age painters such as Gabriël Metsu and Pieter de Hooch.

Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts -- "The Art of Portraiture in the Louvre Collections"

This special exhibition was made possible with support from all eight of the Louvre's curatorial departments. Focusing on portraiture using the Louvre's abundant and diverse collection, this exhibition takes a close look at the many ways in which artists portrayed the human form. Among the portraits on display is "La Bella Nani", which last visited Japan 27 years ago; as one of the most celebrated masterpieces of the Louvre's portrait collection, it simply is a must-see!
