Sumo Show Hall Open - THE SUMO HALL, HIRAKUZA OSAKA

Sumo is Japan's national sport with a history of more than 1,500 years, and remains a popular sport today. Now, a hall where you can enjoy sumo as entertainment has opened in Osaka. Shows are held twice a day, starting either at 6pm or 9pm (doors open one hour before), making it a fun nighttime event!

Here is a quick rundown of the show!
■ In English, you will learn about the ceremony to purify the ring, as well as the history and culture of sumo.

　It starts with the ceremony to purify the "Dohyou", the ring upon which the matches take place. Participants will learn about the history and culture of sumo, listen to a humorous explanation of the rules by a Rakugo storyteller in English, and will be able to learn the basics of sumo.

■The moment when the hall is filled with great enthusiasm! The moment of battle for the Sumo Wrestlers.

　Once the bout begins, the audience calls out the names of the Sumo Wrestlers they are cheering for, and the excitement in the hall reaches an all-time high! When the match is over, the Sumo Wrestlers get out of the ring and high-five the spectators. It is a joyous occasion when the Sumo Wrestler you are rooting for wins.

■ You can experience a bout with a real sumo wrestler in a ring that is the same size used in real matches.

　Spectators selected by lottery from a large number of applicants (limited number) will wear sumo suits and wrestle with the Sumo Wrestlers in a full-size sumo ring. After the bout, a commemorative photo can be taken. This is a valuable experience since the rule in actual sumo is that women are not allowed in the ring.

■ While watching the show, you can enjoy a Nichirakuza bento box lunch and delicious vegan and halal-compliant dishes.

　There are also "Nichirakuza bento" packed with nine different dishes, including Osaka's famous Takoyaki (octopus dumplings), "High-end bento" provided by the long-established ryotei restaurant Nadaman, children's bento, and halal and vegan bento. For drinks, Japanese tea, sake, and wine are available, but we recommend the draft beer, which is poured by a vendor who will come to your seat.

■Recommended souvenir 1: The "Torikumi" folding fan, 4,500 yen, depicting a Sumo match.

　This is a store-exclusive souvenir and comes with a bag to hold the fan and a paulownia wood box. Two other Kachofugetsu type fans are also available.

■Recommended souvenir 2: "Gottsan cookies" with a very cute picture of a sumo wrestler, 1,100 yen

　"Gottsan" means "Thank you" in the sumo world. The pack of 14 cookies comes with a cute picture of a Sumo Wrestler or referee on each cookie, which are available only at the store.

■ A Message to our guests visiting Japan
　This is one of the few facilities where visitors can watch powerful, authentic sumo wrestling, engage in matches with real sumo wrestlers, and take commemorative photos. The ring is the same size as the actual ring, and although women are not allowed to step onto the actual ring, here they can do so regardless of gender. We invite those who have never heard of sumo to learn about the history and culture of sumo and enjoy "sumo" through hands-on experience.
