How do you spend an hour before getting on the train?

Waiting at the station, going to a cafe, browsing in a book store...

If you have such time at Tokyo Station, we highly recommend the Kyobashi Edogrand Town Museum.

Here, changing four times a year, the collection of Teruhisa Kitahara, world-renowned as leading toy collector, is exhibited.

It is free of charge and can be visited at any time, as it is located in an underground passage inside the building (Kyobashi Edogrand opening hours: 7:00-22:00)

Let`s take a little peek.

At the moment a railway collection is exhibited.

Tinplate trains, that' s so nostalgic.

On the top row the "Odakyu Romance Car" is shown.

From the day of its debut until now, this train has been loved especially by children.

It is nice that even the box in which it was sold at the time is displayed.

Here you can see locomotives lined up.

On the top is America's "Virginian Railway - Electric Diesel Locomotive".

With its big vehicle body and the way colors were used, etc., it is very impressive.

In the middle you can see "Thomas the Locomotive".

It was made in Japan in the 1950s, it must have been very popular in Japan at that time.

However, compared to the current Thomas, his face is a bit...

This is old.

On the top is a toy that resembles Tokyo Station in the 1910s.

It looks like they put more effort into the three-dimensional pine trees and cherry blossoms? than in the station building.

In the middle is a toy named "Automatic Walking", which is one of the most outstanding exhibits in this exhibition.

This yellow board is the driver's cab and it is said that the children wore it around their necks and ran around....

Surreal, isn't it?

This "Railway Collection" exhibition will be held until February 25th.

Afterwards, valuable toys from the "Kitahara Collection" will be exhibited with different contents.

Only 5 minutes away from Tokyo Station and can be watched within 10 minutes, it is a perfect way to fill in spare time during your trip to Japan.
