1. TOKYO Rainbow Summer Festival

This indoor festival in Odaiba combines the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese fair with digital technology. Attractions include fireworks displayed on a giant LED screen, ring toss, shooting games and interactive games that respond to body movements.
The air-conditioned venue is comfortable even during extreme heat or rainy weather. It is a good choice for visitors who want to experience Japanese festival culture through a contemporary presentation.

2.75th Ueno Summer Festival

One of Tokyo’s signature summer events takes place around Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond. Highlights include the “Rinrin Corridor,” lined with approximately 4,000 wind chimes, as well as fair stalls, an antique market and stage performances.
The Ueno area is also home to museums, art galleries, Ameyoko shopping street and other attractions, making the festival easy to include in a full day of sightseeing.

3.Mundo Pixar: The Pixar World Experience

This immersive exhibition recreates the worlds of Pixar films such as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Cars and Coco with life-size sets.
Visitors can take photographs that look as though they have stepped into a movie scene, making it enjoyable for both children and adults. Some dates require timed-entry tickets, and the venue may close on selected days, so check early once your travel dates are fixed.

4.The Origin of Mamoru Hosoda Exhibition: 20th Anniversary of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Marking the 20th anniversary of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, this exhibition explores the creative origins of animation film director Mamoru Hosoda. Storyboards, production materials and displays based on memorable scenes reveal how his films are made.
The exhibition also features an area inspired by the virtual world “OZ” from Summer Wars and displays of characters associated with his major works. It is recommended for visitors interested in Japanese animation culture.

5.Fireworks Aquarium by NAKED

This limited-time summer event combines aquarium life with digital fireworks created through light, sound and video. Inside the aquarium, visitors can enjoy displays that make fireworks appear to bloom under the sea, as well as dreamlike spaces featuring jellyfish and illuminated effects.
During the nighttime dolphin performance, 360-degree digital fireworks are synchronized with the dolphins’ jumps. The aquarium is about a two-minute walk from Shinagawa Station, making it easy to visit in the late afternoon or evening.

6.Special Exhibition: Super Amazing World of Life – National Museum of Nature and Science × Darwin’s Amazing Animals

Using specimens and research materials from the National Museum of Nature and Science together with footage captured for NHK’s nature program Darwin’s Amazing Animals, this exhibition introduces evolution and the remarkable survival strategies of living creatures.
It is suitable for animal and natural-science enthusiasts as well as families. The museum is located in Ueno Park, allowing visitors to combine it with nearby art museums and Ameyoko on the same day.

7.60th Azabu-Juban Noryo Festival

Organized mainly by businesses in the Azabu-Juban shopping district, this is one of Tokyo’s most popular summer festivals. Visitors can enjoy food stalls run by local restaurants, regional specialties from across Japan and stage performances.
After dark, lanterns create the lively atmosphere of a Japanese summer festival. The area becomes extremely crowded, so wear comfortable clothing and decide on a meeting point in advance.

8.Shigeru Mizuki Yokai Summer Festival: 88 Mysterious Constellations

This limited-time summer event combines the world of yokai drawn by Shigeru Mizuki with the starry sky of a planetarium. The 88 constellations projected across the dome transform into mysterious and charming “yokai constellations.”
Photography and video recording are permitted inside the dome. Yokai-themed fair games and exclusive merchandise are also available. As admission is organized by time slot, advance online booking is recommended.

9.Hatena Exhibition: An Exhibition of Questions

“Where do you start eating a strawberry shortcake?” This interactive exhibition uses familiar questions to reveal differences and similarities in the way people think and feel. Answers are visualized inside the venue, naturally encouraging conversation among friends and family.
Many displays use photographs and multiple-choice options rather than relying only on written language, making the exhibition intuitive for international visitors. Its Shibuya location is convenient for a stop during a shopping trip.

10.Spicy Summer Grand Prix 2026

Restaurants at ARK Hills and Atago Green Hills will offer limited-time extra-spicy dishes made with ingredients such as chili peppers, Japanese pepper and habanero. Visitors can compare curries, mapo tofu, burgers and many other styles of spicy food.
The event may particularly appeal to visitors from Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea, where spicy food is widely enjoyed. Check the heat level and ingredients, and choose a dish that suits your tolerance.
