Komeda's Coffee is a popular coffee shop chain that originated in Nagoya. Over the past few years the brand has seen rapid expansion not only in Tokyo but all across Japan.
However, did you know that Komeda also has a sister shop that is still yet to leave Nagoya?
This Japanese-style riff on Komeda's Coffee is called "Japanese traditional sweets & green tea Okagean" and remains something of a rarity, with just seven locations around Nagoya*.
For this report I visited the Okagean location in Aoi, which shares its building with a regular Komeda's Coffee.

Of course, Nagoya coffee houses are characterized by their so-called "Morning Service". Order any drink between opening time and 11am and you get a free breakfast into the bargain!
Even better, at Okagean you can choose from three different sets. One is a rice ball and miso soup, the second is red bean paste with toast and a boiled egg, and the third is Japanese confectionery. I chose the toast set.
