The area surrounding the Osaka and Umeda Stations is known in Japan as the Kita (“North”) area. Osaka Station City, opened in the spring of 2011, is symbolic of the Kita area. Then, in 2013, also born in the Kita area was Grand Front Osaka, made up of various commercial buildings and hotels. In the area around the station, still developing as a more and more exciting district, even today the construction of fashion, large home appliance, and other stores are being completed, all centering around four large department stores. There are many exciting experiences waiting for any travelers to the Kita area and the daily new developments focused around its large commercial buildings. In neighboring areas, the classic tourist destinations of the Umeda Sky Building hanging gardens and HEP Five Ferris wheel both provide a bird’s eye view of the city and are always bustling with visitors.
