Speaking of a resort of Japan, it is Okinawa. The big shopping center and duty-free shop are in Naha-shi and tourists can enjoy the shopping enough, too. A direct flight leaves from Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, etc.
Well, today Mr. Fujiwara is showing us Okinawa specialities here in Okinawa Washita Shop in Ginza.
If you are speaking about sake from Okinawa sake, it is Awamori. There are about 200 brands, and it is said there are more than 1,000 types. If it is mixed with citrus juices such as lemon or flat lemons (called “shikuwasa” in Japanese) gives it a refreshing taste making it delicious. But, it is high in alcohol content so be careful with drinking too much!
Those that come in pots have a traditional sensation.
Also, here is the one that surprises foreign customers. It is habu liquor. A snake called habu is placed inside. Some people buy it as surprise souvenir. The person who receives it is in for a surprise!
In the basement of the store, many crafts are on exhibition and for sale.
There is also the musical string instrument called the “shamisen” which is a fixture for Okinawa folk songs, and the figurine of the guardian angel Shisa.
There are many type of Ryukyu glass cups.
In Okinawa, there is also a tour where you can experience making your own original glass cup in the studio!
It is charm of Okinawa that there are a lot of individual special products.
