From the 11th to 16th of July this year, the Exhibition Hall will be quite literally gleaming with works in purest gold at the annual Gold Exhibition. With work from many of the finest Japanese artisans working in the medium, this is as much a celebration of Japanese kogei craft as it is the fin-ished articles in all their gleaming glory.
As you might expect, this is a chance to find pristine examples of classical Japanese art from master goldsmiths such as Ishikawa Koichi and Ishikawa Hiroaki, the 3rd and 5th generation of their craft-ing household respectively. Between them they tackle subjects from Japanese daily life including functional teapots and cups, right through to objets of timeless themes that have reverberated through Japanese art for centuries.
Elsewhere, unexpected but no less beautiful work such as unbelievably accurate renditions of iconic Japanese rhinoceros beetles, or kabuto-mushi, will fight for your attention.
With summer at hand and Olympic anticipation in the air, you will also find a large number of sporting themes from soccer to baseball all given life in K24 gold. At the venue the sheer diversity of gold craftwork is sure to take your breath away, so take your time and bask in everything from classic cars to Buddhist statues rendered all the more beautiful in pure gold.
