DESCRIPTION

In the history of European art, mythology and the Bible, have long been the subject of classical antiquity paintings.
In the 16th century, Baroque featured a dramatic contrast compared to the ornate Rococo that blossomed in the 18th century.
Even though designs change, since the subjects stayed the same, it lead to the norms of art education.
Whereas, since the Industrial Revolution, scenic nature views have become the subject of art pieces.
Particularly on the outskirts of Paris in the town of Barbizon, where artists who painted the lives of farmers, the paintings spread far and wide and became known as the Barbizon school of painters.
These artists painted not only Idealized history painting and portraits, but also, still life and portraits of landscapes.
This exhibition features about 70 European pieces from the collection of Goto Fine Art Museum in Yamagata Prefecture.
Marvel at the world of European art and history from the 16th to the 19th century.
