Shopping district on Sugamo Jizodori
Sugamo Jizodori Street is also called as "Harajuku for grandmas". It is former Nakayama Street that prospers from the middle Edo Period.
At the moment Sugamo Jizodori is protected by Sugano Koshizuka (stone monuments) and 2 Jizo (guardian deity of children) "Togenuki Jizo" and "Edoroko Jizo". The area is loved mainly by elderly persons but young people also visit this place as a spot of faith and shopping district. Nowadays this street is famous not only for "Togenuki Jizo" and temples but for the character "Sugamon" duck and red underwear.
4th, 14th and 24th day of each month is called "Green day" and these are festival days on the road approaching to the shrine. It is crowded with a lot of stores.
There are also spots where grandmothers gather and streets where you can find easy to wear trousers and clothes for elderly people.
